How to tell the version
Please check the version of the system working on your DD-500 before downloading the archive file.
- Hold down the [ EXIT ] button , and connect a plug to the INPUT A/MONO jack. Then it will turn on.
* Press and hold the [ EXIT ] button until "DD-500" appears on the display. - The display indicates the current system version.
- Disconnect the plug from the INPUT A/MONO jack.

- Additional display options have been added to A/B SIMUL mode. You can select both MS and BPM options use the [DOWN] / [UP] buttons to switch the screen.
The following bugs were fixed.
- The carryover function does not work when receiving EFFECT SW CC from MIDI.
- The effects may not be able to be turn on / off when receiving EFFECT SW CC via MIDI.
System error occurred due to parameter setting in PATTERN mode. - Issue fixed where the delay sound sometimes continues to sound when switching banks in A/B SIMUL mode.
- Other problems related to effect switching and MIDI reception have been fixed.

- A TEMPO HOLD function was added.
This lets you keep the tempo information from being changed when switching patches. - A LOOP LEVEL adjustment function was added.
This makes it possible to adjust the LOOP LEVEL value for phrase loops.
- A clear operation for phrase loops was added.

- Executing a bank change with CTL FUNC remaining enabled at "FSW MODE = SIMUL" sometimes results in CTL FUNC failing to stop.
- When a patch change is made, the immediately previous delay sound sometimes plays.
What you will need to update your DD-500
- DD-500
- USB cable (It must be compatible with USB 2.0 Hi-Speed.)
- A computer with a USB 2.0 connector ( Windows, Mac )
- AC Adaptor ( PSA Series )
Caution when performing the update
- We recommend that you back your user data up to your computer before you perform the update. If a problem occurs and your user data is lost, you will be able to restore the data by reloading the data you saved. For details on the procedure, refer to the "Transmitting Data to an External MIDI Device" section in the owner's manual.
- Never apply this update data to any product other than the DD-500. This update data may destroy the data or system program of other products.
- Be sure to power the unit using the AC adaptor. Executing the update while running on only battery power may cause the update to fail and result in incorrect operation if the batteries go dead before the update finishes.
- Never power-off your DD-500 while the update is in progress!
If a power failure or similar accident occurs during the update process, the DD-500 won’t be able to start up in normal operating mode. This will require servicing, so you will need to contact Roland service center near you if this occurs. - We regret that we are unable to answer questions regarding the update procedure using this system program. Please perform the update responsibly, following the directions given in this document.
Getting the update file
Please open/extract the downloaded " dd500_sys_v203.zip " file on your computer to get the update files in the " dd500_sys_v203 " folder.
Procedure for the update
NOTE

- Turn off the DD-500's power.
- Disconnect the USB cable.
- Allow your computer to enter suspend (standby) or hibernate mode, restart it, or shut it down.
- Connect an AC adaptor to your DD-500. * The DD-500 will not operate on USB bus power.
- Set the [ FEEDBACK ] knob, [ E.LEVEL ] knob, [ TONE ] knob and [ MOD DEPTH ] knob to the minimum position.
- Hold down the [ TIME/VALUE ] knob, and connect a plug to the INPUT A/MONO jack.
Then it will turn on and the display will indicate the "Connect the USB cable.". - Use a commercially available USB cable to connect the DD-500's USB connector to your computer's USB connector.
- Open the "BOSS_DD500" drive. [ Windows users ]
Within My Computer (or Computer), open "BOSS_DD500" (or Removable Disk).
[ macOS / OS X users ]
On the desktop, open the "BOSS_DD500" icon. - Copy (drag and drop) the "DD500ROM.BIN" and the "ROMINFO.TXT" in the "dd500_sys_v203" folder into the root directory of the "BOSS_DD500" drive.
- After the copy has been completed, unmount or remove the drive on your computer.
With WindowsRight-click on the "BOSS_DD500" icon in My Computer (or the "Removable Disk (*:)" icon) and execute "Eject."With macOS / OS XDrag the "BOSS_DD500" icon to the Trush icon in the Dock. - Disconnect the USB cable.
The message "EDIT:EXECUTE" will appear on the display. - Press [ EDIT ] button to start the update process.
While the update is in progress, the message "Updating..." is shown on the display. - The message "Completed." will appear on the display when the update process completes.
- After you confirm the update completion with the "Completed." indication, remove the plug from the INPUT A/MONO jack. Then it will power off.
- Please verify the version number "2.03" with the procedure described in "How to tell the version" part of this document.
